Review: Cherry Fruit Bar from Betty Lou's

Review: Cherry Fruit Bar from Betty Lou's

Betty Lou’s makes a variety of gluten free and vegan fruit bars that are flavored like pies. The current pie bar flavor options are cherry, blueberry, strawberry, blackberry, apricot, and apple. You can purchase a box of 12 from the manufacturer or from Amazon.

The bars are advertised as a healthier alternative to a slice of pie that is free of the top 8 major allergens. These are a good option for a sweet snack on the go, or as an addition to a lunchbox. They are not sweetened with cane sugar and are instead sweetened only with concentrated fruit juices. The cherry pie bar contains 200 calories, 24g sugar, and 4g fiber.

The fruit bars look like a fig newton, but taste much better. They’re slightly flaky like pie crust, with a mildly salty oat-based exterior. Inside, the naturally-sweetened cherry pie filling actually tastes like cherries and is gooey like pie filling or jam. The concentrated fruit flavor is nicely balanced by the salty crust.

I’m very satisfied with this bar as a dessert replacement with a cup of tea, and love that it is sweetened with fruit juice. I’m looking forward to trying more flavors. The review from Trying New Food makes me want to buy the strawberry flavor next, although apricot also sounds great.
