Review: Birthday Cake Bites from Drizzilicious
Birthday Cake Bites from Drizzilicious are mini rice cakes with a sweet birthday cake flavor...
These “Power Wraps” from Gopal are a great vegan & gluten free Slim Jim alternative. They’re also raw and organic, consisting primarily of sunflower seeds, coconut nectar, almonds and flaxseeds. They have 5g protein per stick, coming in at 120 calories each. It also advertises itself as Keto-friendly. A single package comes with 2 sticks. You can purchase them online for $2.79 individually, or in a case of 24 for $66.96.
I’ve been eating these for years, so I knew what I was getting into. I think this product is amazing. It tastes great, and it’s very filling. Surprisingly, the nori seaweed wrapper might be the star of the show. It’s a very smart way to mimic the “snap” that people associate with Slim Jims and other meat sticks like landjaegers. The sunflower seeds are a bit chunky and provide a good texture, and the filling overall lends itself well to different seasonings. It comes in lots of flavors, including Curry, Bail, Beetroot Hummus, Italian, Jalapeno Cheese, Japanese, Mexican, Texas BBQ and Thai Mango.
Overall, these vegan jerky sticks don’t have much room for improvement. They were one of my favorite snacks when I lived in Portland, and I was happy to discover them in Brooklyn at one of my local grocery stores. The Curry flavor is probably my favorite, followed by the Italian and Texas BBQ options. Calling them “vegan jerky” might be a smart way for Gopal to brand this item, but they don’t need to pretend to be something they aren’t. These stand on their own as a really unique, healthy, filling, and affordable snack. Give them a try!
