Review: Ranch Cauliflower Wings from Wholly Veggie

These Ranch Cauliflower Wings are from Wholly Veggie, a company that creates plant-based frozen foods. All of their products are also gluten free! The ‘wings’ are cauliflower pieces battered in a gluten free panko coating, with a dairy free ranch dipping sauce.

Wholly Veggie creates vegan foods that could possibly be considered healthier than other highly processed options. Their products are dairy free, gluten free, nut free, non-GMO, and also contain no preservatives or artificial flavors. Their products can be found in stores in the US, Canada, and in the UK. They currently only ship direct to customers in the US and Canada. Other offerings include pizzas, meal kits, a variety of appetizers, and vegan patties.

Ranch Cauliflower Wings Review

I don’t have an air fryer, so I opted to bake the cauliflower wings. There’s a large variation in ‘wing’ size, which made me nervous that the smaller pieces would burn before the large pieces were fully cooked. Luckily, this turned out not to be the case! They baked for 22 min and were perfectly golden and evenly crisp at that point. While they were baking, I thawed the dairy free ranch package under running water.

The baked cauliflower wings had a perfectly crunchy panko exterior and a surprisingly fresh-tasting cauliflower center. They weren’t at all greasy, but they were a bit lacking in flavor for my taste. The ranch especially wasn’t much more than a flavorless cooling dip. As you can see from some of the photos, I ended up coating them in buffalo sauce and that helped a lot! Turns out that Wholly Veggies also has Vegan Buffalo Cauliflower Wings, which I really think they should combine with the ranch version instead of serving them unseasoned with the ranch dip.

Despite the ranch cauliflower wings being under-seasoned, the texture and freshness were really good! I’d put this in the category of foods that are good enough and easy to augment with my own toppings to make them worth it. I’d love to try their other products, especially the vegan jalapeño cheddar sticks and pizza bites!
